Real life stories

Discovering new passions

Cathy was drawn to the warm and friendly atmosphere she immediately encountered when she stepped through the doors at Cedar Springs PARC. One year later, she’s having the time of her life, along with Shih Tzu, Daisy Mae in tow.

While fitness classes, walks with Daisy Mae and regular resident bus trips keep Cathy plenty busy, Cathy’s new-found joy for watercolor painting is what keeps her most occupied these days.  She’s even set up a small make-shift art studio inside her suite to paint beautiful flowers and tranquil landscapes which she uses to decorate her suite or send to friends and family as holiday cards.

Cathy is a testament to it never being too late to start a new hobby. In fact, she has her eyes set on photography next. Sounds like this vibrant and vivacious resident is just getting started.

Next: Mary Jean, Recitalist and pen pal

“It’s far more social here.”

Mary Jean has only been a Cedar Springs PARC resident for one year, but she’s already experiencing the many benefits of living in a vibrant community of like-minded people.

“It’s far more social here. I used to live in a condo, and a lot of people were away during the day. But here, you can come down and have a cup of coffee any time and there’s always somebody around,” she says.

Music is something that Mary Jean has been passionate about since she was a child, even going to Italy and studying music in her teens. As a recitalist, Mary Jean has sang in choirs and has performed solos and in oratorios. Since moving to Cedar Springs PARC, Mary Jean has already put on a musical performance for fellow residents, with another performance planned for later this year.

Next: Henry, Mountaineer

“Enjoying the view from the top.”

As a lifelong skier and mountaineering enthusiast who has volunteered as a safety patrol officer in Whistler for the past 26 years, Henry can’t say enough about the convenient location of Cedar Springs PARC. “We have mountain trails on our doorstep, beaches and waterways for paddling. This is a huge advantage to other seniors’ residences. It makes this place unique.”

Henry is an avid hiker and regularly heads to the Baden-Powell and other nearby mountain trails; he also kayaks in nearby Deep Cove and swims at Cates Park. And to fuel all that exercise he turns to Cedar Springs’ Chef Josef. “I don’t see how it could be any better…it astounds me”, says Henry of the culinary creations.
